DC: Starting with Superman's Powers - Chapter 9

The sun dipped below the horizon, and moonlight bathed the land.

Jino and Clark’s conversation had ended in discord.

Clark insisted that with great power came great responsibility, and that super-powered individuals should restrain their abilities.

Jino, however, held the opposite view. He wouldn’t use his formidable power to harm innocent people, but for enemies who threatened him, he would eliminate them without mercy.

At this moment, outside Smallville, on the road near Luthor Manor, a sports car rounded a bend and drove into the estate.

The old butler had been waiting for a long time.

Jino tossed the car keys to the butler to park the car and strode into the old mansion.

In the vast living room, a magnificent chandelier hung. Lex sat in a chair, swirling a glass of wine. He raised his hand, took a sip of red wine, and looked at Jino triumphantly. “Château Lafite, pure flavor.”

“Too bad you’re not old enough to drink.”

Jino sat in his seat, a steaming steak on his plate. Rosemary sauce coated the steak, giving off an enticing aroma.

“Not being able to drink red wine doesn’t make me angry, Lex. I don’t like the stuff anyway.” Jino shook his head, using his knife and fork to cut the steak and chew it.

“Oh, by the way, there’s something I need to tell you. Jeremy woke up.”

Lex raised an eyebrow, putting down his red wine glass. “I was just about to tell you about that.”

“Just this morning, Jeremy, who was in a VIP ward in Metropolis, suddenly woke up and then instantly disappeared. After that, the entire hospital lost power for half a minute.”

“Suddenly disappeared?” Jino frowned. “You mean he gained superpowers like me?”

Lex rested his chin on his hands and nodded. “I’m afraid so.”

“The meteor shower all those years ago created too many unknowns and accidents, including your terrifying abilities.”

“That’s also why we’re back here, brother.” Jino glanced at Lex’s bald head. “If we can unravel the mystery of the meteors, maybe you can get your lost hair back.”

Listening to Jino’s teasing, Lex’s face darkened. “We said we weren’t going to talk about my hair.”

“My bad, my bad.” Jino smiled and raised his hands in surrender. His older brother would act like a little girl and ignore him for days when he got angry.

Well, in a way, Lex was actually a dark, complex, tsundere boy.

“But Jeremy actually got superpowers.” Jino rubbed his chin and looked at Lex. “Lex, be careful lately. This afternoon at school, I received a threat from Jeremy.”

“A threat?” Lex’s expression turned somewhat grim, guessing Jeremy’s intentions. “Is it because of what happened thirteen years ago? He thinks we stood by and did nothing.”

“Exactly.” Jino nodded. He was also helpless about Jeremy’s crazy thought process.

“Young master, perhaps I shouldn’t disturb your meal.” Old Jarvis, the butler, in a tuxedo with one hand behind his back, politely said, “However, a group of police officers have arrived outside the manor and wish to question the young master.”

Hearing the butler’s announcement, Lex couldn’t sit still and stood up abruptly.

“Questioning?”

He looked at Jino. “What happened? Were your powers exposed?”

At this moment, Lex was already considering whether he needed to hire assassins to eliminate all witnesses to ensure Jino’s safety.

Jino shook his head.

“No, not at all.”

“I broke the bully’s arm as quickly as possible. No one noticed. Those police officers will just be clueless.”

Only then did Lex calm down after hearing Jino’s words. As a family member, he was well aware of Jino’s strength, and even more aware that the world wasn’t ready for metahumans.

Lex turned to the old butler and said, “Butler, go tell those police officers we don’t have time to cooperate with their investigation.”

As the eldest son of the powerful Luthor Family, Lex wasn’t afraid of the consequences of not cooperating with the police.

The old butler nodded and left. After a while, he returned to report, “As you wished, the police have left.”

In the free United States, capitalists held significant sway, and the small town’s police department dared not offend the local tax-paying Luthor Corporation.

And this was the power of capital.

After getting the cold shoulder at Luthor Manor, the police cars left, turning left and right until they arrived at Kent Farm, Clark’s home.

Compared to their obsequious behavior at the manor, the two local police officers went directly to Jonathan’s front door and roughly knocked on the wooden door. “Mr. Jonathan Kent! We’re the town police, and we need your son’s cooperation with an investigation.”

Inside, the family, gathered around the wooden table eating, exchanged glances. Martha looked at Clark with some worry, instinctively feeling that her son had gotten into some trouble.

Jonathan gestured with his eyes for his wife to calm down, then looked at the somewhat flustered Clark. He stood up and opened the door, blocking the police with his body. “Officers, I’m Jonathan Kent. What has Clark done?”

The lead officer pulled out a small notebook and said, “It’s about an incident at Smallville High School. The captain of the football team, who is in your son’s grade, mysteriously broke his arm during a fight.”

“His arm was completely shattered. He’ll never play football again.”

“And according to witnesses, he was in a conflict with the new transfer student, Jino Luthor, at the time.”

“And your son, who tried to stop the conflict, witnessed the entire thing.”

The police officer said expressionlessly, attempting to exert pressure, “We want to know what happened.”

Listening to the officer’s statement, and connecting it to his own son’s terrifying abilities, Jonathan’s face became incredibly grim. He mistakenly thought that Clark had broken Whitney’s arm and crippled him.

After all, only his own son possessed such frightening power.

But years of upbringing made Jonathan believe that Clark wasn’t someone who would do such a thing.

For a moment, Jonathan was conflicted.

“Are you looking for me?”

Just then, Clark, hearing the commotion, came up beside Jonathan and looked at the officer.

The two police officers glanced at Clark and said, “That’s right, Clark. Do you know how Whitney got his injuries?”

Clark was silent for a moment, meeting the gaze of the two officers, and his dad Jonathan’s suspicious stare. At this moment, Clark felt a little hurt, not expecting his dad to actually suspect him.

He then recalled his conversation with Jino not long ago.

The words “A wild wolf mistakenly thinks it will be accepted by the pack if it disguises itself as a hunting dog, but a wild wolf is still a wild wolf” that Jino had said at the time resonated deeply with Clark.

After a moment of silence, Clark made up his mind. He lifted his head and stared at the two officers: “Sorry, I wasn’t sure what happened at the time. Whitney’s arm inexplicably fracturing might have been some kind of supernatural event.”
